Who I work with

Counselling for grief, anxiety, chronic illness, relationships and life’s unexpected transitions.

Not all grief begins with bereavement.

You may have lost someone you love. But grief and loss also come from other sources: you may be living with cancer, chronic illness or pain, going through a relationship breakdown, struggling with anxiety, or facing a future that no longer looks the way you expected.

Perhaps you’re used to being the person others rely on, but now you’re struggling too.

I’m a counsellor and trained Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapist in St Albans, Hertfordshire. I work face-to-face in St Albans and online with adults across the UK.

I work with people who are dealing with:

  • Grief and bereavement, including anticipatory grief or the death of someone you love
  • Cancer and chronic illness, whether the diagnosis is yours, or belongs to someone you love
  • Chronic pain, CFS, fibromyalgia and autoimmune conditions
  • Anxiety, whether it shows up as health anxiety, perfectionism, self-criticism, people-pleasing, or just feeling overwhelmed
  • Relationship difficulties, attachment patterns, separation, divorce and difficult family relationships
  • Parenting, including difficult relationships with children and the changes that come as they grow up
  • Losses that aren’t always recognised as grief, such as infertility, pregnancy loss, redundancy, retirement, becoming a carer or an empty nest
  • Addiction and alcohol misuse, whether you’re worried about your own behaviour or affected by someone else’s
  • Stress and burnout, particularly when you’re used to being the one who holds everything together

When you’re used to being the person who copes with it all

You don’t need to be in crisis to come to therapy.

You might have a successful career, good relationships and a life that looks fine from the outside. That doesn’t mean everything feels fine on the inside.

Before becoming a counsellor, I spent many years in senior corporate leadership. I understand the pressure of being responsible for other people, juggling work and family life, and continuing to function professionally when something difficult is happening personally.

What if your reason for coming to therapy isn’t on the list?

That’s fine.

People rarely arrive in therapy with one neatly defined problem. Anxiety can be tangled up with relationships. Chronic illness can involve grief. Divorce can change your sense of who you are. Burnout might have something to do with how difficult you find it to say no.

We can start with whatever is troubling you.

I use Internal Family Systems (IFS), Gestalt counselling and an attachment-informed approach. I’m interested in understanding why you feel and respond the way you do, rather than telling you how you should feel or trying to get rid of the parts of you that are struggling.

I offer counselling and IFS therapy in St Albans, Hertfordshire and online across the UK.
